Early systolic sounds in aortic valve stenosis.

چکیده
The association of early systolic sounds with aortic valve disease has long been recognized (Potain, 1900; Oria's and Braun-Menendez, 1939). The genesis of this sound and indeed the timing in relation to aortic valve opening has been disputed. Some authors (Wolferth and Margolies, 1945; Wiggers, 1949; Minhas and Gasul, 1959) suggest that they occur at the time of aortic valve opening, while others (Leatham and Vogelpoel, 1954; Reinhold, Rudhe, and Bonham-Carter, 1955) postulate an origin in the aortic wall during the systolic ejection period. This has led to these sounds being variously termed early systolic clicks, and ejection sounds. For these reasons, a study was carried out in a group of patients with suspected aortic stenosis. The purpose of this study was to clarify the relationships between these sounds and left-sided pressure events, to assess the frequency and significance of such sounds, and to make observations relevant to their mechanism of production.

متن کاملAnalysis of the pathological severity degree of aortic stenosis (AS) and mitral stenosis (MS) using the discrete wavelet transform (DWT).
The heart is the principal organ that circulates blood. In normal conditions it produces four sounds for each cardiac cycle. However, most often only two sounds appear essential: S1 and S2. Two other sounds: S3 and S4, with lower amplitude than S1 or S2, appear occasionally in the cardiac cycle by the effect of disease or age. The presence of abnormal sounds in one cardiac cycle provide valuabl...
متن کاملBicuspid Aortic Valve: An Unusual Cause of Aneurysm of Left Coronary Sinus of Valsalva
Bicuspid aortic valve is traditionally considered an innocuous congenital anomaly. Due to a better and widespread availability of non-invasive imaging techniques, it has come to the fore that 30% of these cases develop complications, viz., valve abnormality (aortic regurgitation and stenosis), and aneurysm of aortic root and ascending aorta. Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm is an uncommon complicatio...
متن کاملMurmur alternans in aortic stenosis.
Acquired aortic stenosis, when severe, often gives rise to pulsus alternans.' Other relatively common causes for pulsus alternans include hypertensive heart disease, coronary artery disease, syphilitic heart disease and cardi~myopathy.~ When pulsus alternans is present, the clinician can usually appreciate it through the use of a sphygmomanometer, in which case when the cuff is infiated to near...
متن کاملMechanism of early systolic closure of the aortic valve in discrete membranous subaortic stenosis.
The mechanism of the apparent early closure of the aortic valve in patients with discrete membranous subaortic stenosis was studied. Discrete membranous subaortic stenosis was simulated in vitro to assess the fluid dynamic characteristics in the region of the aortic valve that may be responsible for the early closure. In the presence of a simulated fixed membranous subaortic obstruction, early ...
